PRIDE - (Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education) Pre-Service training. This is a mandatory, standardized competency-based training program offered to all prospective adoption and foster parents throughout the province of Ontario. Upon completion you will have knowledge of the following competencies:
- Protecting and nurturing children
- Meeting children’s developmental needs and addressing developmental delays
- Supporting relationships between children and their families
- Connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime
- Working as a member of a professional team
- Reinforcing a child’s heritage and cultural identity
This training provides an informative, thought-provoking look at fostering and adoption. A wide range of topics are covered including: placement planning, the significance of continuity in a child’s life, connections to the child’s birth family and kin, how children attach and experience loss.
This will assist you in considering all the aspects of fostering and/or adoption, the impact on your own family and how to care for the children who are placed in your home, as well as better inform the mutual selection process. |

Support
As a valued member of a professional team upon approval, you will be supported and guided as you integrate the child/children into your family. Supports offered include but may not be limited to: an assigned worker, 24 hour support, ongoing training, and other skill building learning opportunities and affiliation with local and provincial foster parent associations.
